Dr. David Fisher, Jr. & Associates uses several methods to provide relief from Low Vision:

  • Spectacle Mounted Telescopes: Designed for tasks requiring better central vision and mobility, these glasses are used by drivers to see signs and traffic lights, grandparents to see grandchildren playing soccer, and bridge players to see cards on the table.
  • ClearImage II Microscope Glasses: Two high-powered lenses “piggybacked” for crystal clear images are prescribed for reading small print.
  • Spectacle Prismatic Glasses: These moderately powered lenses are useful for near tasks like reading, writing, and handicrafts.
  • E-Scoop Contrast Enhancing Glasses: These lenses combine five special optical elements that create a larger, clearer, higher contrast image. One patient improved his golf score dramatically wearing them. Another explained, “This is the clearest I have seen in years.”
  • Nutritional Counseling: Years after the landmark AREDS 1 and 2 (Age-Related Eye Disease Studies), exceptional advances in scientific knowledge allow us to recommend proper nutrients to retard the progression of conditions like Macular Degeneration.
  • Illumination Counseling: The aging retina of the eye requires increased illumination to achieve better vision. We will recommend Low Vision designed lamps and bulbs for best results at home.
  • Driving Rehab: Loss of independence is the single most devastating result of vision loss. To pass DMV vision requirements, the better eye must test better than 20/200. Dr. Douglas can test your vision for DMV qualification and prescribe telescopic glasses to help you meet the state vision requirements. To obtain a bioptic driver's license the state requires proof of completion of at least 30 hours of behind-the-wheel training from a state-approved instructor. The patient must also successfully pass a driver's skill test with a state-approved tester.
  • Implantable Miniature Telescopes: This cataract implant is surgically placed in one eye to magnify distance images. There are many criteria for acceptance into the program to minimize the risks that are always present with surgery. *Dr. Douglas will Refer for this service
